Washington, DC - The FBI is considering funding a nationwide program to install a technology that will help reduce gun violence in every major US city.
Its called a Shotspotter - a network of noise sensors - The Shotspotter can apparently identify and pinpoint gunfire and send an alarm to the local police station. This will allow police to respond more quickly when the inevitable happens.
But it is unlikely to save the lives of any of the tens of thousands of people who die as a result of gun violence in the US every year.
Police forces in a dozen or more cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles, are installing Shotspotter sensors on some of their meaner streets.
