Brooklyn, NY - Muslim Assaulted by Jewish Teens Wants Prosecutors to Charge at Least Five More

Brooklyn, NY - The Pakistani immigrant who was assaulted by a group of Orthodox Jewish teens said he is still shaken more than a week after the attack and fears others will become victims "if justice is not served here."

Wearing bandages over his broken nose and his eyes still black-and-blue from the Oct. 29 beating in Brooklyn, Shahid Amber warned, "What can happen to me can happen to anyone."
"There is so much hate out there, and the hate is so strong that it can lead to violence. I'm sure that if this is not stopped here, then there may be other victims," said Amber, 24, adding he could barely sleep and was having nightmares.

Five youths face hate crime charges in the beating of Amber, who was eating ice cream outside a Dunkin' Donuts in Midwood when his attackers "started hooting at me. They were shouting slogans - 'Muslim terrorist' - and cursing me: 'Go back to your country,'" he said, as was reported here on VOS IZ NEIAS.
Amber's attorney, Omar Mohammedi, said that 10 or more teens were present and "were enticing, were encouraging the bias crime" also should be charged.
But Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) said not all the facts are in. "There's a lot more to this story than has so far appeared," said Hikind, who appeared with Jewish and Muslim leaders to denounce the assault.

Amber's father, Umber Islam, said his Muslim family had never had any problems in heavily Orthodox Midwood, where they have lived since emigrating from Pakistan six years ago. "I love this country, and my love is for all the people who are living in here. If I get angry at them, what will be the use? I don't want to take the law in my hands. I want law enforcement to come forward and take the justice," Amber said.
