Toronto, Canada - Four Alarm Fire Burns Meat Shop

Toronto, Canada - A meat market was all destroyed by a raging inferno late Friday.

Perl's Meat & Delicatessen -- a prominent business in the the city's Jewish community located at 3013 Bathurst St. -- erupted in flames just minutes before Shabbas.
"When firefighters arrived, there was dark smoke coming from the roof and flames shooting out up to six feet from the second-floor windows," acting district fire chief Mike Strapko said.
The fire quickly escalated to a four-alarm blaze, prompting 17 fire trucks and about 80 firefighters to respond. Strapko said fire crews were battling the fire for hours. "It's a stubborn fire," he explained. "It's trapped in the ceiling and walls."

Perl's a Toronto landmark founded 50 years ago by a Holocaust survivor, closes early on Fridays to allow the owners to prepare for the Shabbas, so nobody was injured and it was the only business affected by the fire.
